My primary interest is to use my photography as a way of addressing the issues that worry me. Communicating ideas through visual protest is very difficult as the measure of success is varied. How do I command an audience to engage with my work and to take on board the issues and to act on their findings? This is a question that many artists and photographers have to grapple with. My images are abstracted views of plastic packaging taken in the studio and made to be aesthetically attractive to a wide audience. These images utterly contradict the truth of these materials and the immeasurable damage caused to our planet from years of perverse consumption. Irony is a tool used in marketing to trick the audience into thinking about their products long enough to be enticed by the message and so this strategy seemed to me to be appropriate for my work.
